KARACHI: Mukka Chowk located in the stronghold of the MQM will be given a new name.
A notification is expected which will see the name of the famous landmark being renamed to Shaheed-e-Milat Liaquat Ali Khan Chowk after Pakistan’s first prime minister.
Earlier, posters of MQM chief were removed from Mukka Chowk and Jinnah Ground.
On the other hand, decision has been taken to take off posters of MQM chief from Educational institutions.
According to sources in the education department, posters of MQM chief could be seen in many institutes. However, a decision has been taken to remove them.
They said that the universities have been told to stop activities regarding MQM chief.
They further said that the pictures of MQM chief posted by APMSO would soon be removed.
The landmark was established in 1991 when Farooq Sattar was the city’s mayor and renovated in 2009 during the mayorship of Mustafa Kamal.
Many offices of the party have also been demolished in the city including unit offices near Mosmiyat and Quaidabad.
MQM offices in Sukhan, Sachal, and in the jurisdiction of Airport Police Station have also been demolished.
