ISLAMABAD – Legendary cricketer Wasim Akram was conferred with civil award Hilal-e-Imtiaz on Pakistan Day for his services to the country. President Dr Arif Alvi conferred awards and medals on several civil and military personalities for their outstanding achievement in their respective fields at an investiture ceremony organised at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad on Pakistan Day.

The president had also bestowed the civil award of Hilal-e-Imtiaz to the former ace Pakistan cricket team captain Wasim Akram. On this auspicious occasion, Wasim Akram’s beloved wife Shaniera Akram had something special to say to her husband upon this achievement.

Taking to social media, Shaniera wrote a sweet message for her husband, saying he is proof that dreams really do come true.
“He never really got a retirement but moments like this make it all worthwhile,” she wrote.“What a proud moment. You have shown the world that if you work hard and believe in yourself, no matter what background you come from, that you can achieve anything. You are the proof that dreams really do come true,” Shaniera said. She added that Wasim has made us all so proud in the past and continues to do so today. “Congratulations Wasim Akram you deserve it,” Shaniera wrote.

Wasim Akram married Australian lady Shaniera Akram on 12th August, 2013 in a small ceremony, which was attended by his family and close friends. Akram married Shaniera after the sad demise of his wife in 2009 due to multiple organ failure. The couple has a beautiful daughter named Aiyla and are residing in Karachi these days.
