PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Mahmood Khan has approved setting up three new shelter homes in Peshawar, directing authorities to collect data of homeless people.
Chairing a meeting at CM house on Saturday, he directed authorities to make arrangements for establishing shelter homes in line with the directives of Prime Minister, Imran Khan.
The meeting among others was attended by Chief Secretary, Naveed Kamran Baloch, Additional Chief Secretary P&D, Shahzad Bangash, Principal Secretary to CM, Muhammad Israr, Finance Secretary, Shakil Qadir, Commissioner Peshawar and concerned officials.
The participants were told that at present there were 11 shelter homes in the province among which three were in Peshawar while the remaining ones are situated in regional headquarters that needs rehabilitation.
Addressing the attendees, Mehmood Khan directed rehabilitation of existing shelter homes and asked to compile data of homeless people for proper identification.
He also directed rehabilitation of existing Drug Addicts Centre and said that staff and should be provided to these facilities. He also agreed with the proposal to allocate ten beds for the treatment of drug addicts in three major hospitals and directed to consult hospital authorities in this connection.
CM Khan also stressed utilizing full capacity of Zamong Kor (Our Homes) directing to bring in a maximum number of street children.
He also took notice of complaints regarding non-provision of stipends to artists and directed authorities to address the issue.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had directed CM Punjab Usman Buzdar to set up tent camps for the homeless people in Lahore. He had also expressed that similar camps would be set up in Peshawar and Karachi as well.

The premier also shared pictures of the camps and added that it was a tem[porary arrangement until the completion of shelter homes.
A couple of weeks ago, the prime minister had laid the foundation stone of the Punjab government’s shelter homes project.
According to the spokesperson of the Punjab government, five shelter homes will be set up outside Data Darbar in Lahore in the first phase of the project.
