Shehbaz Sharif undergoes medical examination after cancer scare

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz President, Shehbaz Sharif underwent a medical examination at a private hospital in Islamabad on Sunday.

The Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly was brought to the hospital by a team of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) where his blood tests and CT Scan were conducted.

The examination followed the recommendation of a four-member medical board which said Shehbaz’s CT scan be conducted on an immediate basis after his blood report indicated signs of cancer re-emergence.

According to well-placed sources, the board had also suggested the formation of a larger board comprising cancer experts for a thorough check-up of the lawmaker.

Shehbaz Sharif was flown to Islamabad on Friday to attend the National Assembly session after the National Assembly Speaker, Asad Qaiser issued his production order.

The PML-N president had earlier battled cancer and during an appearance before an accountability court in Lahore, the politician complained that he has blood cancer but was not being permitted medical check-up by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials.

Shehbaz has been in NAB’s custody since October 5 in connection to the Ashiana Iqbal Housing Scheme case in which Rs 14 billion were allegedly embezzled.

Sharif’s wife, Tehmina had clarified last month that the politician was not suffering from cancer.

Sources claim that the medical reports of PML-N leader indicate signs of Chromogranin A (CgA) and his adenoid cystic carcinoma node level was found to be at 688 while the normal level is considered to be 100.
