WASHINGTON (News Desk) – United States Department of State has welcomed the surprise visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Lahore where he held meeting with Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif.
In a statement spokesman John Kirby went on to say that such meetings will further strengthen the bilateral ties of two countries and United States encourages every single move towards improvement.
United States expects that now both India and Pakistan will resume comprehensive dialogue to discuss all outstanding issues, he added.
It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that foreign secretaries of Pakistan and India are due to meet in mid January to decide the strategy to resume bilateral dialogue.
The announcement to start a new comprehensive dialogue came during Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj’s visit to Islamabad earlier this month.
