Ahsan Iqbal appointed UNDP’s champion minister for Asia Pacific region

NEW YORK (Web Desk) – Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal has been appointed as Champion Minister of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the Asia Pacific region.

The appointment was announced at a meeting on the 50th anniversary of the body at UN Headquarters.

According to a statement, Ahsan was appointed on the position for working proactively towards promoting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

While addressing UNDP’s 50th anniversary Ministerial Meeting in the General Assembly, Ahsan Iqbal pointed out that we live in a world of shared destiny and there can be no room for islands of peace and conflict, prosperity and poverty, health and disease, and education and illiteracy in today’s world. “These disparities must end”, he emphasized.

The UN, he said, should work towards a shared prosperity based on a revitalised global partnership for a prosperous world.
