PML-N UC chairman files plea seeking ban on Mufti Qavi from leading Eid prayer

MULTAN (Web Desk) – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) newly elected chairman from Multan’s UC-81 has submitted an application with the DCO Multan seeking to bar Mufti Abdul Qavi from leading Eidul Fitr prayers.

The petitioner stated the recent pictures of Mufti Qavi with Qandeel Baloch that went viral on social media had hurt the sentiments of masses. He therefore requested the District Coordination Officer to bar the cleric from administering Eidul Fitr prayer at Bagh-e-Langah Khan.

The court said the matter was out of its jurisdiction and the petitioner should approach the government for action against the cleric.

Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Naeemi, earlier, had filed the petition contending that Mufti Qavi hurt sentiments of Muslims. He said that people saw the cleric as a role model, given the prestigious posts he held, but his selfies with Qandeel had mocked Islamic values. The petitioner asked the court to order the police to register a criminal case against the cleric.
