PM Imran apprised of security situation in first visit to Miranshah
RAWALPINDI - Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday make the first visit to the newly merged tribal districts of North Waziristan.

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, Defense Minister Pervaiz Khattak were also part of the delegation.

The civilian and military leadership was briefed about the security situation in the region, according to Inter-Services Public Relation (ISPR).

Both were briefed on the security situation, ongoing stability operations, socio-economic projects and rehabilitation of temporary displacement people (TDPs), ISPR DG Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor tweeted.

The premier will later visit Ghulam Khan Terminal/ border fencing and address jirga of local elders at Miranshah.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mehmood Khan, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak and others also accompanied him during the visit.

On Sunday, local media reported that the prime minister is expected to announce a mega uplift package for Miranshah.

PM Imran will also meet jirga comprising elders of North Waziristan and South Waziristan and likely to announce a big package for Miranshah that may include construction of universities, hospitals, and sports complex.

According to the constitution amendment, FATA will be granted sixteen general seats, four seats for women and one seat for non-Muslims in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. The elections shall be held within one year after the general elections.

The amendment reduces the number of seats in the National Assembly from 342 to 336. The members of the National Assembly from FATA to be elected in 2018 election shall continue till the dissolution of the Lower House
