ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Indian authorities have lodged the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, at Cheshma Shahi Sub-jail in Srinagar on Friday.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was arrested from outside his Nageen residence when he defied his house detention and tried to lead Azadi march towards Eidgah in Srinagar, on Friday, and was confined at the Nageen police station.
In a statement the forum spokesman strongly condemning the detention and said that the Mirwaiz called at about 6:30 pm last evening and informed that he was being transferred from the Nageen police station to some unknown place about which he has not been informed.
“After that, his phone was seized and his whereabouts could not be ascertained leading to serious apprehensions about his base hit.
It was about 9 pm when the family was asked by the police to afford his clothes that they were informed that he has been detained and lodged at sub jail Cheshma Shahi,” the spokesman stated.
The spokesman said that the detainment of the Mirwaiz and other leaders expressed the frustration of the occupation authorities.
