Swearing in of Punjab, KPK governors postponed

ISLAMABAD – The oath-taking ceremonies of nominated governors for the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been delayed owing to the presidential elections.

PTI leader Chaudhry Sarwar had to take oath as Governor Punjab on Tuesday while Shah Farman was to be sworn in as Governor KPK today (Monday).

However, as the electoral college of president involves the members of Senate and provincial assemblies, both the nominated governers preferred not to resign from their seats.

Ch Sarwar was elected as a Senator in recently held Senate elections while Shah Farman won PK-71 seat and as Arif Alvi is running for presidential elections, scheduled on September 4, both the lawmakers have decided to relinquish their office after casting vote.

Alvi would be confronting PPP’s nominee Aitzaz Ahsan and divided opposition’s candidate Maulana Fazlur Rehman, however, the numbers game suggest that PTI would be electing Alvi as the next president of Pakistan, replacing Mamnoon Hussain on September 9.
