VIDEO: Woman harassed at PML-N rally in Pattoki, attacker arrested from Lahore on CM Shehbaz s order

PATTOKI – A member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) women’s wing was assaulted by party workers at a rally in Punjab on Tuesday.

Zeba Afsheen was shoved and injured as the audience started dispersing following the Punjab chief minister’s speech. She also complained of being abused by men around her.

The victim requested CM Shehbaz Sharif to take a prompt action against those involved and said that she attended all party rallies and her presence at Tuesday’s public gathering should not surprise anyone.

The woman, a resident of Kasur said she “came to support the party, but the treatment by those present here is shameful.”

Footage from the rally shows men present at the rally misbehaving with the lady after entering the women enclosure following Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the rally. Other women workers present in the enclosure managed to escort her out of the enclosure.

‘Not PML ethos’

Soon after the shameful incident, Maryam Nawaz took to Twitter to ask CM Shehbaz Sharif to take notice of the incident as it is “not PML-N ethos”.

Taking notice of the incident, the chief minister has directed the regional police officer to submit a report within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah asserted that it was Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf which shaped “a culture of misbehavior’ during political rallies.

Following the CM’s notice, Pattoki Police lodged an FIR on the complaint of Afsheen’s brother-in-law who named two men in the application.

Subsequently, within two hours after the complaint was registered, a man was arrested in Lahore for harassing the woman.

The incident followed the election of Shehbaz Sharif as PML-N’s acting president and deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif as ‘Quaid’ of PML-N.

The announcement was made in the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting, presided by Nawaz Sharif in Lahore earlier on Tuesday. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi also attended the meeting.
