ISLAMABAD – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has accorded approval to scale down power tariff by Rs2.21 per unit in addition to reserving judgment on a K-Electric plea seeking raise in electricity tariff by paisas 40 per unit.
During the hearing NEPRA approved the reduction of power tariff by 2.21 under Fuel Adjustment Surcharge (FAS) head for the month of December 2016. The decision will provide a collective relief of Rs19 billion to consumers. The reduction in power tariff will not apply to K –Electric consumers, agriculture and lifeline consumers.
During the course of the hearing NEPRA was informed that Rs 8.10 per unit were charged to the consumers through electricity bills in December 2016 while power production cost remained Rs 5.88 per unit. Therefore, reduction to the tune of Rs 2.21 per unit was approved against cost of electricity.-Online
