Railways official who sought leave over Sheikh Rasheed s non-professional attitude replaced

LAHORE – A senior official of Pakistan Railways who sought 730- days  leave over “non-professional” attitude of Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed was removed from his post on Monday.

Pakistan railways issued a notification of removal of Hanif Gul, a Grade-20 officer, from the post of chief commercial manager, while a notification of Agha Waseem’s appointment in his place was also issued.

Earlier, Mohammad Hanif Gul, said in his application letter that he finds it impossible to work with Sheikh Rashid, who is a coalition partner of PTI government.

“With due respect it is submitted that the attitude of the new Minister is extremely nonprofessional and ill-mannered. As an Honorable member of the Civil Services of Pakistan, it is not possible for me to work under him,” read the letter being circulated on social media.

“It is, therefore, submitted that 730 days leave may kindly be allowed to the undersigned,” it added.

However, Gul’s request for leave had yet to be approved. A decision about whether he would get the leave or a new appointment would be made later.

The issue made headlines after a meeting of railways officials, chaired by Rasheed, where the minister had reportedly admonished them for telling “stories” about the department’s better performance.

The officials had reportedly told the minister that there had been a significant increase in railways’ income, to which Rasheed had asked them not to praise “any minister” in front of him.

Rasheed after taking up the ministry has often criticised former minister of railways Saad Rafique for his performance.
