Rs 3 per unit cut in electricity tariff for industrial sector announced

KARACHI (Staff Reporter) – Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has announced a reduction of Rs 3 in per unit tariff of electricity for industrial users.

Addressing the 39th Annual Export Awards Distribution Ceremony under the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the Prime Minister assured more cuts in power tariff to help the industrial sector. He maintained the tariff would be applicable from January 1, 2016 and urged the business community to work harder and produce better quality goods, generate employment and earn foreign exchange for the country.

The Prime Minister said all sources of power generation, including coal, water, nuclear, and wind, will be utilized to rid the country of energy crisis for good, adding that Thar coal enjoys great importance for power generation in the country.

He said work on construction of Sukkur-Multan section of Karachi-Lahore Motorway will start soon.

Earlier, inspecting Bin-Qasim Coal Power Project, the Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif directed to make it operational by 31 December 2017. The Prime Minister had himself laid foundation of the project, to be completed at a cost of 1.5 billion dollars.

It is the first power project being set up under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Federal Ministers Khawaja Asif, Ishaq Dar, and Khurram Dastgir, Chinese Ambassador in Pakistan was also present.
