Bol launches malicious campaign against activist Jibran Nasir, accuses him of blasphemy

KARACHI – A private news channel, Bol TV, has launched a campaign against lawyer and human rights activist Jibran Nasir, leveling allegations of blasphemy.

In a special segment, the media outlet claimed that Nasir is against a law regarding finality of Prophethood (PBUH) and accuses him of being a foreign funded activist.

However, Jibran Nasir said that Bol TV Network has launched a malicious and defamatory campaign against him for pursuing the Shahzaib Khan murder case.

On Dec 26, a group of civil society activists challenged the bail of Shahrukh Jatoi and others in the Shahzeb Khan murder case granted by the Sindh High Court (SHC) before the Supreme Court.

Nasir on his Twitter handle shared some screenshots of the news channel, showing statements against him. He said it is the second attempt made by the media outlet against him this year, accusing him of blasphemy and treason.

The activist tweeted as, “For filing appeal in #ShahrukhJatoi case @BOLNETWORK has started campaign calling us appellants traitors and foreign funded agents. In Jan BOL falsely accused many of us of blasphemy for speaking for bloggers against whom FIA found nothing. Why is BOL protecting Shahrukh Jatoi?”.

He said that Bol is “accusing me of blasphemy, foreign funding and treason just to protect #ShahrukhJatoi. For BOL its all about money”.

In January, Jibran Nasir had filed an FIR against TV anchor Aamir Liaquat Hussain and BOL TV network under the Anti-Terrorism Act for intimidating the public and spreading religious hatred.

In his FIR Nasir stated that the anchor and channel were spreading religious hate-mongering and threatening the lives of certain journalists and activists.
