Jahangir Tareen nominates son for contesting NA-154 by-poll in line with hereditary politics

LODHRAN – The disqualified legislator of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Jahangir Tareen has pitched his son Ali Khan Tareen to contest the by-elections for the NA-154 constituency of National Assembly.

The seat had fallen vacant after the apex court sealed the political career of PTI’s secretary general for life owing to concealment of his offshore firm besides other charges.

In what appears to be a U-turn for Imran Khan-led PTI, vowing for change and calling for bulldozing hereditary politics, Ali Tareen would now be contesting the by-elections scheduled to be held on Feb 12, 2018.

Tareen’s son took to Twitter and confirmed that he had submitted the nomination papers upon the request of the Lodhran community.

Ali Khan stated that he had been working for the development of Lodhran and South Punjab but contesting for MNAship was not on the cards for him.

Earlier, on Wednesday, Ali Tareen addressed the local community of Lodhran and thanked the leadership for giving him the opportunity to enter electoral politics.

According to Election Commission of Pakistan, candidates may file their nomination papers from Dec 26 to 28, while scrutiny of the same will be held on Jan 5, 2018.

ECP will issue the final list of candidates after scrutiny on January 16 and issue electoral symbols to the candidates on January 18.

Tareen had defeated his Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz rival Muhammad Siddique Khan Baloch in 2015 by securing 138719 votes.
