ISLAMABAD – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Tuesday reached Pakistan to attend the meeting of Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) to be held on March 1 in Islamabad. On arrival, the Iranian president was given guard of honour.
The heads of state and government from Iran, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan will arrive in Pakistan in order to attend.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani will not attend the summit as Pakistan and Afghanistan struggle to improve ties, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhary said, adding that Afghanistan would be represented by a “special representative” of Kabul who had been selected by President Ghani.
On Monday, government announced a public holiday in Rawalpindi and Islamabad on March 1 as a part of the security plan for the meeting ECO.
