NEW YORK (Web Desk) – Pakistani rights activist, Syeda Ghulam Fatima, received a Global Citizen award for Leadership in Civil Society during the Clinton Global Citizen award ceremony held in New York on Sunday.
According to Pakistan Today, Fatima is known for her work towards ending bonded labour in Pakistan’s brick kilns and established a non-government organization, Bonded Labour Liberation Front Pakistan.
Her efforts captured global attention when Brandon Stanton of the famous photography blog Humans of New York (HONY) photographed her during his visit to Pakistan this summer and helped her raise $2.3 million for her organization.
A statement from the Clinton Foundation said Fatima was honored for driving a proactive approach toward policy in Pakistan and advocating for core labor standards in Pakistan.
The Ninth Annual Clinton Global Citizen Awards honored outstanding individuals from across the world for their leadership and groundbreaking work that has effected positive, lasting social change around the world in the areas of healthcare, poverty, economic empowerment, legal aid, and women’s leadership.
