Five terrorists of Al Qaeda, Daesh killed in encounter with police: SSP Anwar

KARACHI – Five terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with police personnel after their hideout in the metropolis’ Sachal area was raided on Thursday, said SSP Malir Rao Anwar.

“The terrorists killed were affiliated with Daesh and al Qaeda. They were planning attacks during Ashura,” said Anwar. “We had them under surveillance for the past few days, but had to conduct the operation on an emergency basis as they could have moved soon,” added the SSP.

He said Amir Sharif, one of the terrorists, was an engineer and IT expert.

The police officer claimed that the terrorists wanted to target key installations in the city. Rao Anwar told reporters that one of the terrorists has been identified as a close associate of Saad Aziz, the mastermind of Safoora carnage.

Following the shootout, police claimed to have recovered hand grenades, Kalashnikovs and rockets from a house where the militants used to live
