Army Chief links Karachi peace to economic revival

RAWALPINDI (Staff Report) – Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday said the armed forces will continue to work with civilian government to restore peace in Karachi as it is a priority to revive the national economy.

The army chief, according to the twitter feed of DG ISPR Major-General Asim Bajwa, visited the corps headquarters in Karachi and appreciated the efforts made by paramilitary forces in order to stabilize the city.

DG Sindh Rangers Major-General Bilal Akbar, on the occasion, briefed him about the ongoing target operation and overall law and order situation in Karachi.

General Raheel Sharif congratulated the Rangers for peacefully conducting the bye-elections in NA-246. He expressed his satisfaction over the new prevailing situation in Karachi.

He said the targeted operation of the law enforcement agencies is bringing in relief to the citizens as targeted killings and cases of extortion have reduced notably. He stressed the targeted action should remain indiscriminate and continue till its logical conclusion.

COAS directed the intelligence agencies and Rangers to trace the specific design in recent incidents of targeted killing and apprehend the propagators.
