LAHORE – Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad and Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique appeared before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in separate inquiries on Thursday.
The graft-buster had summoned Fawad for interrogation in the Ashiana housing scheme scam as he has been alleged to have misused his authority to pressurise CM Punjab while he was serving in the provincial bureaucracy.
The accountability watchdog had unearthed illegalities and corruption worth billions in a deal between Paragon Housing Society and Punjab Land Development Company (PLDC) to establish low-cost housing project of the Punjab government – Ashiana housing scheme.
Moreover, Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique – who happens to be the brother of Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique – also appeared before the NAB for an inquiry into the Paragon Housing Society.
According to media reports, Rafique was probed for more than an hour after which he left the NAB Lahore Bureau.
Just a day earlier, Saad Rafique had also appeared before NAB in an investigation pertaining to the housing scam as he is believed to own Paragon Housing Society.
On the same day, Rafique held a press conference and remarked that the slogan for accountability has been chanted for a different purpose.
He claimed that he answered all questions of the NAB, adding that his stance on NAB was intact.
