KARACHI – Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has inaugurated Unit-1 of the 1320 Megawatt Port Qasim Coal-Fired Power Plant Project in Karachi on Wednesday.
Unit-I will generate 660-megawatt electricity. The unit is jointly sponsored by Chinese and Qatari firms.
The governor Sindh and other high-level officials were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi arrived in Karachi on a one-day visit to inaugurate a coal power plant under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Port Qasim.
PM Abbasi also chaired a high-level meeting in Karachi later today to discuss the law and order situation in the metropolis.
The prime minister said CPEC will play a vital role in the economic development and progress of Pakistan. He said projects completed under CPEC will provide job opportunities to thousands of unemployed youth of the country.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the Port Qasim power plant is the first project that has been completed under CPEC. Besides, a number of projects in LNG sector have been initiated.
