Sindh govt bans pillion riding on Chehlum

KARACHI – The government of Sindh has imposed a ban on pillion riding in Karachi and various districts across the province in line with security arrangements for chehlum of Imam Hussain (A.S.) on Tuesday.

The notification in this regard has been issued which states that pillion riding has been banned starting midnight today (Monday) till10 pm on Tuesday (October 30) in Karachi.

The ban shall not be applicable to women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, journalists, law enforcement personnel in uniforms and employees of essential services, it said.

Pillion riding has also been banned in Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Sajawal, Shaheed Benazirabad and Larkana.

Meanwhile, in Dadu and Sanghar, pillion riding has been banned till October 31 while it has been prohibited in Khairpur till November 2.

Further, in Jamshoro, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Kashmore pillion riding has been banned from today and will be in place till tomorrow (October 30).

The provincial government also forwarded recommendations to the federal government for suspension of mobile and internet services in the metropolis and other major cities of the province on the main routes of processions.

According to the police spokesperson, 5,311 policemen would be deployed for the provision of security to the main Chehlum processions in the city on October 30.
