Iranian FM in Islamabad for talks with Pakistani leadership

ISLAMABAD – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived here on Thursday, marking the first official visit of a country’s diplomat since the new government’s formation.

High-level Pakistani officials received the Iranian dignitary and gave him a warm welcome.

The Foreign Office said that the Iranian FM will meet his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi in a one-on-one meeting.

Iranian FM Zarif will hold official talks with FM Qureshi, the FO said in a statement.

The Iranian minister is also expected to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

NA Speaker urges to promote cooperation with Iran

Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser urged to promote cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and energy with Iran.

He was talking to Iranian Foreign Minister Dr Mohammad Javad Zarif who called on him in Islamabad on Thursday.

Both leaders discussed bilateral relations and regional issues.

Speaker National Assembly said Iran has a pivotal role in uniting the Muslim world.

Underlining the importance of close friendly relations for peace, development and prosperity in the region, Asad Qaiser said Pakistan believes in the unity of Muslim Ummah.

Speaking on the occasion, Iranian Foreign Minister said Iran is the partner of Pakistan for peace in the region.

Iranian Foreign Minister praised the role of Pakistan in eradicating the menace of terrorism and extremism.

He said Iran supports Pakistan’s stance on the liberation of Kashmir and Palestine.
