ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Saad Rafique has submitted his nomination papers for NA-131 Lahore constituency for the upcoming by-elections.
Rafique’s papers were submitted by his spokesperson Qasim on Thursday which were accepted by the Returning Officer Raham Zada.
Rafique’s first wife Ghazala Saad Rafique will serve as the covering candidate for the former railways minister.
The national assembly seat had fallen vacant after the incumbent Prime Minister Imran Khan relinquished it as per the ECP directives to take the oath of a single NA seat.
Khan had won the seat with 84,313 votes defeating Rafique who managed to secure 83,633 votes in a cutthroat battle, however, Imran Khan kept his hometown seat of NA-95 Mianwali.
The Supreme Court had also dismissed the Lahore High Court ruling regarding the vote recount in the constituency, on a plea moved by Imran Khan through his counsel Babar Awan.
By-elections on 11 National Assembly seats will be held countrywide on October 14.
