Two injured as suicide bomber blows himself outside CTD office in Rahim Yar Khan

RAHIM YAR KHAN – Two policemen were injured when a suspected suicide bomber blew himself up in Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab, officials said Friday.

The blast occurred outside the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) office at Police Lines in Shafi Town.

District Police Officer Zeeshan Asghar told the media that the police fired at a suspected bomber, who died as a result of the gunshots but not before blowing himself up.

Rescue sources claimed there were two attackers, a man and a burqa-clad individual. The burqa-clad attacker allegedly blew themselves up while the other fled.

Police officials also confirmed to the media that the burqa-clad attacker was a man who succumbed to his injuries after attempting to carry out a suicide attack at a mosque close to the CTD office.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said it was a suicide attack targeting CTD and police officials “but thankfully there was no loss.” “Some people were injured. We are still receiving details about the attack.”

The wounded policemen were shifted to Sheikh Zayed Medical College and Hospital.

Bomb disposal squad was searching for the possibility of more explosives in the area while police started search operation in adjacent localities after cordoning off the area.
