ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah Thursday said that the second round of the Afghan peace talks has been postponed.
In a statement, the FO spokesman said the evil forces will not be able to sabotage the peace talks between Taliban and the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Sources have revealed the decision has been made following the reports of Taliban chief Mullah Muhammad Omar’s death and appointment of new chief Mullah Akhtar Muhammad Mansoor.
Pakistan was the expected venue for the meeting, due to take place on Friday, where Afghan officials had pledged to press the insurgents for a ceasefire.
A foreign ministry statement said the Afghan Taliban leadership had asked for the postponement “in view of the reports regarding the death of Mullah Omar and the resulting uncertainty”.
“Pakistan and other friendly countries of Afghanistan hope that the Taliban leadership will stay engaged in the process of peace talks in order to promote a lasting peace in Afghanistan,” the statement said.

“Pakistan had condemned the Gurdaspur attack. India should not level accusations without an investigation,” FO spokesman told reporters during the weekly news briefing.
The spokesman did not comment on the death of Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar but did say Pakistan was investigating reports of his death.
Qazi added Pakistan remained committed to supporting and facilitating the Afghan led and owned reconciliation process.
