Pakistan lifts 5 medals at Special Olympics

LOS ANGELES (Web Desk) – Special athletes from Pakistan bagged five medals on Wednesday in the ongoing Special Olympics World Games 2015 being staged at Los Angeles.

Pakistani athlete girls bagged one silver in swimming two silvers in cycling and two boy cyclists also grabbed one bronze medal each says a press release issued here. Young Special Olympian Aqsa Ahmed Janjua brought the first medal to Pakistan in 50 meter free style. She finished second.

The Gold medalist of this event was Luo Xiau Chun of SO China with 55.90 timing where as third position was captured by Skrij Ema of SO Slovenia with 58.61 timing.

Mehmona Hussain won the first silver in 500 meter race of female cycling race. Her time was 1.15.72 she was fractionally behind Indian competitor Meera Kumari whose timing was 1:14:58.

In another 500 meter time and trial race Khadija Irfan won second silver for her country her timing was 2:23:44.

Salman Siddiqui and Usman Saeed bagged bronze in 500 meter time and trial Cycle race to complete the day with two silvers and two bronze for home.

Two girls Uzma Yousuf and Sumbal Yousuf finished eighth (last position) in same time and trial cycle races.

In Basketball Pakistan defeated Portugal in the first round match of Division 3. Other two teams in this group are Israel and Poland.

Special Olympian Muhammad Usman was unstoppable during the match and remained top scorer and earned decisive 12 points for country Special Olympian Akhtar Ali Khatak bagged 2 points Special Olympian Zahid Muhammed Abuzar 4 points and Special Olympian Waheedur Rehman bagged 5 points.
