12-year-old girl raped, burnt to death in Sindh s Ghotki district

GHOTKI (Web Desk) – A 12-year-old girl was burnt to death after being assaulted in Daharki city of Ghotki district last week, the victim’s mother, who was also severely injured and gained consciousness on Monday (today), told a private television.

She said they used to stitch sheets to eke out a living, and on the day of incident, they were approached by three men under the pretense of business, but they set her daughter on fire after giving her some drug and assaulting her.

Since the police refused to register a case, the victim’s brother has moved the Ghotki sessions court for justice. On court orders, the victim’s mother will record her statement today.

There is a terribly alarming surge in cases involving violence against women. Notably, rape cases are difficult to prosecute in Pakistan.

In April 2011, the Supreme Court had upheld the acquittal of five men sentenced to death in the Mukhtar Mai rape case.

Mai was assaulted in 2002 on the orders of a village council as punishment, after her brother, who was aged just 12 at the time, was accused of having illicit relations with a woman from a rival clan.
