LAHORE (Web Desk/Agencies) – In a much anticipated move, Pakistan has decided to send its troops to Saudi Arabia to fight Yemeni rebels, an international news agency claimed on Monday.
Pakistani troops will be part of the Arab League joint force against Houthi fighters in Yemen who have gained control on most parts of the country, a government official told the news agency.
“We have already pledged full support to Saudi Arabia in its operation against rebels and will join the coalition,” the official said.
However, no official statement has been issued in this regard.
Pakistan is a regional ally of Saudi Arabia, the main Muslim power in the Gulf.
Foreign Office spokeswoman has refused to comment on the news report.
Earlier, Federal Defence Khawaja Asif told MPs last week that government would make a decision on sending the troops to Yemen only after taking Parliament into confidence.
