Polling kicks off for LG polls in Punjab, Sindh

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Polling for the phase-I of the Local Government (LG) polls started in Punjab and Sindh at 7:30 am which will continue uninterrupted till 5:30 pm.

At least 46 lac 17 thousand voters to use their right to cast vote in eight districts of Sindh, for which 4031 polling stations and 11737 polling booths have been established across the province, where a polling staff comprising of 39242 people will monitor the electoral process.

Polling to be held for 385 Town Committee Councillors, 218 Municipal Committee Councillors, 426 District Councillors, Council Union, Council Chairman and Union Council Vice Chairman, 1704 Union Council Councillors, 46 Union Committee Chairmen, Union Committee Vice Chairman and 184 Union committee Ward Councillors.

According to Election Commission, Polling was to be held for two Municipal Corporations, 14 Municipal Committees, 14 Town Committees, 46 Union Committees and collectively 426 Union Councils on 3845 seats during the first phase of LB elections in two divisions of Sindh, in which 707 candidates have been elected unopposed.
