ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court (SC) has refused the apology rendered by TV anchor and Member National Assembly (MNA), Aamir Liaquat Hussain in an ongoing contempt of court case.
The apex court ordered the MNA to appear before the bench in person today (Tuesday).
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar, during today’s hearing, lashed out against the televangelist, saying “anyone can speak against the judiciary and insult it”.

The CJP asked if the additional attorney general was present in court as he had to frame the charge sheet against Hussain today. The MNA’s lawyer urged the court to accept the apology as the “door to forgiveness never closes”.
The case:
The petitioners, including anchorperson Shahzeb Khanzada, Mir Ibrahim-ur-Rehman and Najam Aziz Sethi, accused Hussain of violating the court orders issued on March 28, 2017 directing him not to derogatory language for individuals.

On August 8, the SC slapped a Rs20,000 fine on Liaquat for failing to appear before the apex court. Hearing the case, the Justice Nisar asked Liaquat’s counsel why an arrest warrant should not be issued for the televangelist for not appearing in the court.
