LAHORE – Mourners held processions on 9th Muharram ul Haram (Saturday) to pay homage to the martyrs of Karbala and especially Imam Hussain (R.A).
In Karachi, the main procession took out from Nishtar Park, while in Lahore it started from Pando Street amid a strict security in place.
The yearly processions were also taken out today from Quetta, Rawalpindi and Peshawar.
To beef up the security, the mobile and internet services remain suspended in scattered parts of the country.
A notification by the Home Department of Sindh stated that cellular services would remain suspended across several cities of Sindh which included Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khaipur, Larkana, Shikarpur and Jacobabad.
A three-day ban on pillion-riding has been enforced in Peshawar and Quetta whereas the metro service will remain suspended in Islamabad and Rawalpindi today (Saturday) and on the 10th of Muharram.
The 10th of Muharram, Youm-e-Ashur, will be observed with great reverence on Sunday.
