Building collapse kills at least one in Karachi after heavy downpour

KARACHI – At least one person was killed and two others injured on Thursday after a three-storey building collapsed in Karachi, local media reported.

The dilapidated building reportedly became weaker after heavy rains started lashing the metropolis from Wednesday night.

A rescue operation is underway with the help of locals in Commercial Site Area.

Earlier, at least 11 people lo,st their lives most of them due to electrocution in Karachi following the rains, which has turned the city into a puddle due to incompetency of the district and provincial administration.

Traffic system is disrupted as roads are tuned into ponds due to poor sewerage system, while transporters have halted the inter-city bus service.

Many areas including North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Orangi, Malir, Drigh Road, and NIPA are submerged due to heavy rain.

The citizens of the metropolis are also facing hardships due to electricity failure as over 100 feeders of K-Electric have tripped so far.
