CJP takes suo moto notice on Nehal Hashmi’s threatening speech

ISLAMABAD – The Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Saqib Nisar has taken suo moto notice of the threatening speech of Senator Nehal Hashmi.

The Chief Justice has summoned Nehal Hashmi in the court on Thursday to appear in person. A three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal will hear the matter.

Hashmi appears to be in hot waters after issuing open threats to the Joint Investigation Team probing the family of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over the Panama Papers case.

Hashmi was earlier suspended from the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) and has been asked to tender his resignation from the Senate.

The Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif summoned Hashmi to the PM House and expressed immense displeasure due to his statement. The premier has also reportedly asked Hashmi to tender his resignation from the Senate.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Dr. Asif Kirmani earlier confirmed that a show cause notice has been issued to Hashmi and disciplinary action would be taken against him.

The prime minister had disassociated himself from the threatening statement given by Hashmi while seeking an explanation from him.
