ISLAMABAD (APP) – Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Monday directed completion of infrastructure projects under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) by end of 2017, by mobilizing resources and completing financial and technical formalities.
He was chairing a high level meeting of CPEC to review the progress of infrastructure and energy projects. Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Secretary Water and Power and Secretary Planning and Development briefed the Prime Minister on various projects.
The PM was informed that major infrastructure projects of Peshawar – Karachi Motorway including Sukkur- Multan, Gojra- Khanewal and Lahore- Abdul Hakim Sections of Motorway were ready for groundbreaking.
The meeting reviewed the Havelian to Thakot road project and other sections of KKH that were being upgraded. The meeting also reviewed the progress on the Gwadar East Bay Expressway, Mughalkot- D.I Khan Road and other road projects in Balochistan.
The PM said that completion of road projects in Balochistan under CPEC would be a game changer for the region. He directed that all necessary arrangements be completed before the inauguration so the physical work could be started immediately thereafter.
The PM was informed that work on Attabad tunnel in Gilgit has been completed and is ready for inauguration in last week of August. The Prime Minister would inaugurate the tunnel.
The PM directed completion of work on new Gwadar International Airport in the shortest possible time.
The PM was briefed about the projects of up-gradation of 10 railway stations on Peshawar – Karachi main railway line. Sharif directed quality up-gradation of railway stations, provision of maximum facilities to passengers, and to utilize the buildings of railway stations for economic and commercial activities.
