LAHORE – Acclaimed Indian actor and filmmaker Nandita Das has thanked the Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry after he took notice of the Manto‘s director efforts for getting the film a permit to be screened in Pakistan.

The Federal Minister had taken notice of Nandita Das’ disappointment on Saturday and stated that he was trying to pursue importers to bring Manto movie to Pakistan.

Also, Nandita Das had earlier lauded daily publication ‘The News’ for writing an open letter to the Federal Minister for letting Manto screen in Pakistan.
The director believes that controversial writer Sadaat Manto belonged to both the countries and his writings portrayed the situations of people in both countries before and after partition.

Manto celebrates the life and times of the subcontinent’s most controversial writer to date, Saadat Hasan Manto, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead role as well as other actors like Rasika Dugal as the late poet’s wife, along with Tahir Raj Bhasin, Rishi Kapoor and Divya Dutta in key roles.
Manto is a 2018 Indian biographical drama film about the famous Urdu author Saadat Hasan Manto, written and directed by Nandita Das.
Manto was first screened at Cannes Film Festival on 13 May 2018 and premiered in Paris on 24 May 2018.
