Fatima was diagnosed with a rare type of bone and soft tissue cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma in 2017 and after being declared cancer-free in 2017, the late chef was diagnosed again in February 2018. The celebrity chef had revealed in a heart-breaking essay back in October 2018 that doctors estimated she had only a year left to live.
She wrote an essay for Bon Appétit in which she spoke about how she and her doctors had thought the cancer was gone but was back in her hip and femur.
A ceremony for the awards is scheduled to be held on May 6 in the USA.
