Justice Jawwad S Khawaja to take oath as CJP

ISLAMABAD (Online) – Justice Jawwad S Khawaja will take oath as Chief Justice of Pakistan on Monday after Justice Nasirul Mulk retired today (Sunday).

President Mamnoon Hussain has already approved the appointment of Justice Khawaja as the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Justice Khawaja was born on September 10, 1950 in Wazirabad district Gujranwala. He graduated in 1971 from FC College, Lahore and received LLB degree from Punjab University Law College in 1973.

He then obtained a master (LLM) degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1975.

Thereafter, he was enrolled as an advocate of the high court in 1975 and as an advocate of the Supreme Court in 1985. He remained in legal practice until his appointment as a judge of the Lahore High Court on April 21, 1999. He resigned his constitutional tenure on March 19, 2007.

He joined the Lahore University of Management Sciences as law professor and headed the Department of Law and Policy at the LUMS until his appointment as judge of the Supreme Court on June 5, 2009.
