Pentagon chief hints at slower exit from Afghanistan

KABUL (Web Desk) – Newly appointed United States Secretary Defence Ashton Carter reached Afghanistan on a surprise tour, just days after his appointment.

Carter said, right after landing in Kabul, I am aiming at a long lasting peace in Afghanistan and in the region. I am here to assess the best way to accomplish my aim, he added.

Pentagon chief while commenting on the United States’ withdrawal from Afghanistan, said ‘it needs to be revised’.

Earlier Afghanistan president Ashraf Ghani had requested United States to slow down the process of withdrawal from the troubled country citing the increased insurgency in bordering areas with Afghanistan.
