South Korean President accepts Prime Minister Nawaz s invitation to visit Pakistan

NEW YORK (Usman Shami) – South Korea’s President Ms Park Geun-hye has accepted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s invitation to visit Pakistan during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly.

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Choudhry revealed during his daily press briefing in New York that the prime minister, during the meeting, also proposed initiation of Strategic Dialogue between the two countries at the Foreign Ministers level.

The two leaders also pledged to increase the bilateral trade volume, which currently stands at $1.17 billion. According to Pakistan’s foreign secretary, a Free Trade Agreement is being explored between the two countries and a pre-feasibility study in this regard has already being commissioned. It is expected to be completed by 2016.

The foreign secretary also highlighted that Pakistan and Republic of Korea, being members of the Uniting for Consensus group, share similar views on United Nations security council reforms, especially regarding expansion of the security council.
