PM Nawaz to address UN General Assembly today

NEW YORK (Staff Report) Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will address 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, highlighting Pakistan’s policy on various important issues including Kashmir.

“He will articulate the Government’s vision of a peaceful neighbourhood and economic development, and share with the world community Pakistan’s position and priorities on key international and regional issues,” Foreign Office said.

Officials said the speech will be covering Kashmir dispute, Afghanistan issue, Pakistan’s counter terrorism efforts, relations with China and the situation in South Asia and Middle East.

The Prime Minister’s address will also focus on Indian interference in Pakistan, unprovoked Indian firing on the Line of Control and Working Boundary and a solution to Kashmir issue in accordance with the UN resolutions.

The sources said Pakistan has raised with international community the evidence of Indian involvement in acts of terrorism in its territory.

Over 150 world leaders are scheduled to attend this year’s session.

First lady Begum Kalsoom Nawaz, Minister for Finance, Ishaq Dar, Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz and Minister of State for Information Technology are accompanying the Prime Minister.
