Contempt plea against PM Nawaz for UN speech in English

ISLAMABAD (Online) – The Supreme Court (SC) has been moved for initiation of contempt of court proceedings against Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif for addressing UN General Assembly in English.

The petitioner, Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi, took the plea that the PM has disrespected the SC’s order by delivering a speech at the UNGA in English.

The SC had passed an order on September 8 regarding implementation of Urdu in government departments.

He maintained that all other world leaders addressed the General Assembly in their national languages.
