NEW DELHI (Web Desk) – In a bid to de-escalate the situation arising from attacks on churches and Christian institutions in Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday his government has only one religion – India first.
Modi’s remarks came in Indian parliament, a week after his participation in an event organised by Christian leaders in Delhi wehere he had said his government would ensure complete freedom of faith.
“Nobody has the right to discriminate on the basis of religion,” the Indian premier said, adding his government has only one ideology: “India and the constitution above all else.”
A month ago, US President Barack Obama, during his visit to India, said Mahatma Gandhi would have been shocked to witness the religious intolerance in India recently.
