SBP directs banks to use Urdu language

KARACHI (Staff Report) – State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has directed all banks to take immediate measures to implement on print all the forms, policies and other documents that are to be used by the general public both in Urdu and English.

The directives were issued on the action plan to comply with the provisions of Article 251 of the Constitution of Pakistan on urgent basis which was approved by the prime minister of Pakistan.

In terms of Article 251 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the National language of Pakistan is Urdu, and arrangements shall be made for its being used for official and other purposes.

Banks should display sign boards both in Urdu and English for the guidance of general public in banks premises .

Earlier, the central bank also started off translating its website in Urdu to make information more comprehensible for general masses.
