Saudi court sentences Palestinian poet to death for abandoning Muslim faith

Abha (Web Desk) -A Saudi has sentenced a Palestinian poet Ashraf Fayadh to death for apostasy, The Independent reported on Saturday.

Ashraf Fayadh was held by Saudi religious police in 2013 in Abha. He was tried in 2014.

The court sentenced him to four years in prison and 800 lashes. However,  after appeal another judge gave a death sentence on Fayadh.

It is pertinent to mention here that judges in Saudi Arabia judges have extensive powers to impose sentences according to Sharia law.
