Polling for first LB polls in Islamabad on Monday

ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – A day-long polling process will be held in federal capital city for the first historic local bodies elections on Monday (tomorrow).

The polling will start at 7:30am and will continue till 5:30 pm without any formal interruption.

A local holiday is will be observed in Islamabad where all educational institutions will remain closed however the offices of provincial and federal government will be open and working normally.

More than 6,76000 registered voters of Islamabad will practice their right to vote on the occasion while over 2400 candidates are in the run for positions of chairman, vice chairman and councillors.

Federal administration has announced a comprehensive security plan to tackle any emergency situation during the poling process by deputing 6025 army personnel and 700 officials of Pakistan Rangers.

The personnel of local police and civil security agencies will also be present on polling stations.

Another 1000 officials of Frontier Constabulary (FC) will also perform their duties in Islamabad to maintain law and order situation.

Earlier ECP announced that process of printing of ballot papers has been completed under the security of Pakistan Army. Ballot paper and other election material will be provided to all election staff till Sunday evening, said ECP spokesman.

Green ballot paper would be used for the seat of chairman and vice chairman while white for general councillor seats, he told newsmen.
