India s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj may visit Pakistan

LAHORE (Web Desk) – India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj may visit Pakistan next week, the Indian media reported on Wednesday.

She is likely to attend a meeting on Afghanistan, which will be held in Islamabad.

The plans for the visit come days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of global climate change summit in Paris.

The two leaders had shaken hands and shared a sofa for a tete-a-tete, and Mr Sharif was seen listening attentively as PM Modi spoke to him.

The details of the conversation were not known, but government officials described it as a “courtesy meeting.” Later, Mr Sharif said, “Talks with PM Narendra Modi were good. Doors of dialogue should open.”

The last initiative for India Pakistan talks came in July, after PM Modi and Mr Sharif held a formal meeting in Russia’s Ufa.

Soon after that, the National Security advisor-level talks were scheduled.

But the initiative fell through when the talks were cancelled at the last minute over a meeting of the Pakistani envoy to India with Kashmiri separatists.

In September, both prime ministers attended the United Nations General Assembly in New York and even stayed at the same hotel, but there was no formal meeting.
