KCCI seeks consensus among politicians about Charter of Economy

KARACHI (Web Desk) – President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra has said the difficulties faced by industrial and business community of the country and those of Karachi in particular demanded a unanimously adopted charter of economy.

In a statement on Tuesday, he said the country was in a dire need of a Charter of Economy or road-map, developed in consultation with the business and industrial community and endorsed by all political parties.
“This is essential for meaningful revival of the economy,” KCCI President said.

“Consensus of all political parties and policymakers on the proposed charter is also prerequisite for its efficient implementation,” he reiterated.

Vohra said Charter of Economy, an idea floated by Chairman Businessmen Group and Former President KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli some 5 to 6 years ago needed to be urgently reviewed by all political parties and duly signed by them followed by its meaningful implementation. The charter holds its relevance even today.

The President mentioned that the chamber represents more than 21,000 direct members and 50,000 indirect members hence its submissions and suggestions must not be ignored by the policymakers of the country.

He said that business community of Karachi, which contributes more than 67 percent revenue to the national kitty, was capable enough to pull the country out of ongoing economic crisis but that can only be done if is extended due support by all other concerned stakeholders.

“KCCI also plans to invite heads of all national level political parties at KCCI in order to get their consensus on one-point agenda I e to devise and implement “Charter of Economy”, Vohra said.
