ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Raza Rabbani, top Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader, on Tuesday thanked the political leadership after he was unanimously nominated for the post of Senate chairman.
Rabbani, while talking to reporters, said “I have been a supporter of the flickering democracy in Pakistan, and will continue serving the honorable Parliament. I am a modest servant of democracy.”
The veteran politician vowed to speed up the legislation process in the Upper House of Parliament. “I wish the deputy chairman comes from a smaller province.”
Earlier Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had supported Rabbanis’ nomination, saluting his services to the democratic process in Pakistan.
Other political parties, including ANP, MQM, PML-Q, had also backed his nomination.
Rabbani is expected to have a lunch with the premier this afternoon.
